Khartoum Place has special significance for us. In 1893 New Zealand became the first self-governing country to grant all women the right to vote in parliamentary elections. In 1993, one hundred years after the  Electoral Act passed into law, the Women’s Suffrage Centenary Memorial was erected in Khartoum Place between Lorne St and Kitchener St, in central Auckland. Our ceremony will remind Aucklanders of our heritage.
